Sanibel & Captiva Islands Fishing Report Jimmy’s 250 lb. tarpon @ Boca Grande

Tarpon, Boca Grande Pass, Sanibel & Captiva Fishing Charters

I wrote about tarpons & sharks yesterday, which reminded me of this tarpon fishing story.

Jimmy, my cousin, caught this record size tarpon at Boca Grande Pass on a fishing charter last May.

It was a long, long and hard fight and I had to use my boat to continuously block a 10-12′ hammerhead shark from attacking and eating the huge tarpon.

Come on out – let’s go fishing – or let’s go shelling.  Just give me a call and we’ll line a charter up!

Maybe we’ll even catch a big fish like this and give you a real fishing tale to take home!

Sanibel & Captiva Islands Fishing Report bull sharks in the bay and Boca Grande

We often catch sharks, usually bull or black tip, but sometimes lemon, hammerhead and sand sharks, when we fish the cuts in the bay.  We always release them.

We’ll sometimes catch sharks in the inlets on the tides as they are feeding.

We can also sometimes catch them inadvertently when we are on tarpon fishing charters at Boca Grande Pass or off Sanibel & Captiva Islands.

Big sharks like to eat big tarpon (or little tarpon or any tarpon), so you have to be careful when you hook a tarpon because a shark may come in and attack the tarpon while it is on the line, particularly at the height of the season in Boca Grande Pass.
